Another feature of fairy tales is that reality and the supernatural exist side by side. A dragon could be living alongside a common mouse, a sorcerer living among peasants, or a magical road set next to a normal one, without dissonance. Forces that would shock or awe normal people, like fire-breathing dragons or benevolent fairies, seem commonplace in these characters’ lives. Any normal person might see these events as peculiar, but he seems to regard the events as a perfectly normal occurrence. In â€Å"Snow White,† she seems perfectly content to live in a house with and do the chores for seven dwarfs, never feeling for a second that she is out of place. And the prince who comes to kiss her is seemingly unsurprised that his kiss was able to wake Snow White from her lengthy, magical stupor. Magical words and phrases are a standard feature of fairy tales that have transcended to common knowledge, such as â€Å"Abracadabra† for casting spells and â€Å"Open Sesame,† for opening locked doors. In â€Å"Snow White,† the evil queen asks the famous phrase, â€Å"Mirror, Mirror, on the wall, who i s the fairest of them all?† This phrase allows her to speak to an enchanted talking mirror. Tonight we are going to discuss, Disabled by Wilfred Owen that reflects the tormented feelings of a young soldier after the World War I, written in 1917. The poet himself had served in the war and faced the traumatic experiences in the war himself. His poems totally reflect those experiences in the war. The poem is not only a reflection of the traumatic war experience of a young soldier, but it also focuses on the situations after war and how his individual dreams seem to be unattainable to him. The poem originally was created in order to represent every men and boy who joined the army during First World War due to the false information and propaganda the government had served out. As soon as the victims of the false propaganda came to know the cruel reality, the horror and the destruction of war had captured them by then. Every individual who had joined the army during the First World War did not have any personal agenda of joining the army; rather they were bothered about the glory that was entitled with that. The poem has the omniscient narrator and tells the story of the central character of the poem who looks at the life after returning from the Great War with severe injuries that are life changing for him. The poem impacts on the readers magnificently because the poem depicts the past which we read in the history books. The poet was a high rank officer in the army and before witnessing the dire humanity he himself was a pro war poet so his opinion about the experience in war was not biased rather the journey from home to the frontline gave the readers a sense of respect and connection towards the narrator. In the first stanza of the poem, the author tells the reader about a soldier who represents each and every young man who have suffered from a physical or mental wound and said that he sat in the week chair waiting for the dark. He sat in a wheeled chair, waiting for dark, And shivered in his ghastly suit of grey, Legless, sewn short at elbow. By using the phrase sat in a wheel chair waiting for dark in the introductory stanza the author puts emphasis on the protagonist of the poem and informs the readers that the soldier is now paralyzed and lost the control over his life, which apparently links back to the title of the poem. Owen has also used linguistic expressions like sibilance, short, and sewn to portray an image of having the physical loss to the soldier and puts more emphasis on the physical disability of the young soldier. The words wheeled and waiting also added to the expressions of passiveness of the protagonist. Through the first few lines the author had transmitted the feeling into the readers mind and the readers start feeling pity towards all the young soldiers who have already thrown their lives in the Great War. The first stanza stands out and communicates with the readers saying that there is not any joy left in his life and all he can do is to wait for the death to take him away from the mundane life. The second stanza of the poem is formed to contrast the pleasant and vivid images about the past life of the soldier and tells the reader about the joys and passions he had in his previous life that have been taken from him. The poet has juxtaposed the happiness and sorrow. The first three lines of the stanza are full of positivity and joy. This stanza gives the reader a joyful image. Through the phrases such as swing so gay, girl glanced lovelier and glow lamps budded, a sense of positivity passes through the minds of the reader and represents a picture where the soldier is visualizing his previous life what he strongly wishes to be real again. However the cruel reality suddenly appears in front of his eyes with the brutal contrast threw away his knees that shows that even the soldier himself believes that loss was nothing but wastage. The time frame marker now has been used to show the reader the brutal reality is in the present. It is renewable and generated from a variety of vegetable oils and animal fats, not raw vegetable oil. Raw vegetable oil cannot be utilized because it has not undergone the process of transesterification. Transesterification is a process in which oils and fats are obtained organically and are combined with alcohol with the help of a Catalyst to form esters. Biodiesel can be used either in its pure form of 100% biodiesel, or can mix with petroleum as a biodiesel blend (ex: B20, 20% biodiesel, 80% petroleum diesel). Biodiesel began in the 1890s with Rudolph Diesel. Diesel thought early diesel engines could run on pure vegetable oils and believed there would be a grand benefit to those living in poor areas where there was no petroleum. The modern biodiesel that is derived from the transesterification process did not surface until the 1930s in Belgium. But today’s biodiesel really began in Europe in the late 1980s. The early diesel engines ran on many substances, until vegetable oil seemed to be an efficient alternative. That is when Rudolph Diesel got to work and researched vegetable oil, concluding farmers could make their own fuel. However, Diesel died a short while after and petroleum became found in many forms. Yet, the biodiesel industry kicked off after the transesterification process was launched and became a preferred method as an alternative fuel. All good things are flawed, and biodiesel does include some disadvantages. The production of biodiesel can result in more land use. If many of us switch to using biodiesel, there would be much land devoted to our biodiesel fuel needs. Biodiesel transportation and storage can be a hassle. Since biodiesel does not flow well during winter, storage can become an issue. Also, biodiesel cannot travel in pipelines. A truck has to transport it, resulting in higher cost. Biodiesel becomes a gel in cold weather and does not flow; therefore one can experience driving difficulties in the winter time. The diesel creates wax crystal which can clog filters and fuel lines in your car’s fuel system. Even with its disadvantages, biodiesel has not become a popular alternative fuel for nothing. It has many advantages that persuade people to make the switch. Biodiesel is easy to use, and any vehicle can be converted into a diesel engine car. Also, because biodiesel can be blended with petroleum diesel, one could switch from biodiesel to petroleum whenever wanted, without having to make any changes. Biodiesel pumps at gas stations across the country are growing daily. Pure, 100% biodiesel will have about 5%-10% less energy than petroleum diesel. Usually people notice very little change in their mileage or performance. When using a biodiesel blend, the numbers change. Using B20, there is less than 2% change in energy and users notice no change in mileage or performance. Using biodiesel is an advantage that is greatly helpful to the environment. Biodiesel is nontoxic, causing less damage than petroleum diesel if it is spilled or somehow released to the environment. It is also safer than petroleum diesel because it is less able to explode or catch on fire. The combustion temperature for biodiesel is higher than 150Â °C, and about 52Â °C for petroleum diesel. Biodiesel is safe to handle, store, and transport. B100 use reduces carbon dioxide emissions by more than 75% compared with petroleum diesel. Using B20 reduces carbon dioxide emissions by 15%. Also, in both soil and water, biodiesel degraded at a rate 4 times faster than petroleum diesel.
